Overcome Addiction at St. Gregory Recovery Center

St. Gregory Recovery Center is delighted to report that overdose deaths are down nationwide, but there’s still much work to be done on the recovery frontier. Synthetic drugs continue to wreak havoc on the country’s health system—with fentanyl and nitazene still posing a significant threat to the population. Alcohol continues to trap people in addiction and create especially dangerous complications when combined with other substances. This is why St. Gregory remains committed to helping people overcome addiction and to furthering our mission: to improve the lives we touch.

The Success of Addiction Recovery Services in Iowa

Our addiction treatment services in Bayard and Des Moines focus on six main programs designed to enrich and sustain recovery from substance use disorder (SUD):

  • Detox services and withdrawal management
  • Individual and group therapy, focusing on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address and change thought patterns and destructive behaviors
  • Family programming, including education and therapy for families who are supporting a loved one throughout recovery
  • Intensive outpatient programming as a step-down from residential treatment or for those whose addiction is less severe
  • A Tactical Recovery program for Veterans, active service members, and first responders who deal with addiction and, frequently, PTSD or other dual diagnoses
  • Equine therapy, which uses the guided interaction between horses and patients for the patient’s benefit and healing

The evidence is clear: professional treatment helps people leave drug abuse in the past, refrain from criminal behavior, and improve their overall well-being. Simply put: you’re better off beating addiction when you enter a treatment program. If you have any questions about how St. Gregory can help you or your loved one, contact us

Our Detox Services in Bayard, IA

While not everyone who comes to us needs to detox, people who struggle with alcohol, benzodiazepine (benzo), or opioid abuse often need supervised detox services. We’re equipped with the right tools, staff, and resources to make you as comfortable as possible while experiencing any of the following withdrawal symptoms:

  • Extreme agitation and seizures
  • Vomiting, nausea, and weight loss
  • Insomnia and/or depression
  • Anxiety, restlessness, and appetite loss
  • Seizures and/or hallucinations
  • Confusion and/or delusions

The St. Gregory Family Recovery Program

We exist to support both individuals and families touched by addiction. Our main goal is to facilitate the repair and rebuilding of the familial unit and any trust lost or compromised due to substance abuse. Our Family Recovery Program hones in on:

  • Addiction education and destigmatization
  • Communication skills and awareness-building around codependency, enabling, and boundary-setting
  • Tools for building a support network
  • Relapse prevention

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Some people who have SUD may not require fully supervised inpatient recovery services or may not be able to commit to a long residential stay away from family. To reach out to these clients, we offer our IOP in Des Moines, which offers many of the benefits of inpatient treatment while allowing clients to return home each night. The program centers around:

  • Group and individual therapy
  • Improving your ability to identify relapse triggers and practice relapse prevention
  • Basic education about addiction causes
  • Bettering communication and life skills
  • Creating and strengthening communal and/or familial support systems

Equine Therapy and Tactical Recovery at St. Gregory

St. Gregory Recovery Center’s equine program uses interaction with horses to teach our clients concentration, empathy, and cooperation. Equine therapy can increase self-esteem and improve confidence.

Tactical Recovery is our resource for Veterans, active military members, and first responders. The mental health of anyone who has seen combat or been exposed to violence may be severely impacted, and this can promote the development of an addiction. Our Tactical Recovery program contains all the same methods and approaches as traditional recovery services but with a special consideration for the unique circumstances of military experience that may result in PTSD or other mental health issues. We provide:

  • Therapy for individuals, groups, and families
  • Education about food and exercise
  • Equine therapy and CBT
  • Recovery coaching services and support with life-skill development and life planning

If you feel that any of the programs and services we’ve laid out today may serve you and your family, we hope you’ll reach out to us for more information! Science supports our strategy, and we hope our evidence-based, human-centered services can be of help.
